Edward Boutin is a mediator, facilitator, coach and trainer and has assisted parties in over 1,500 cases. In twenty years as a neutral he has helped parties in the federal, public and private sectors in Labor and Employment. In addition, he has served as a mediator in Maine District Court, Maine Department of Education, Community and private practice.

From 2019 to February 2025 he mediated, facilitated, coached and trained federal, private and public union and management officials as a Commissioner in the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS). Settlements in difficult negotiations were achieved in mediations of collective bargaining agreements and grievances. More importantly, relationships between the parties were either maintained or improved.

Prior to FMCS, Edward worked in the US Postal Service in unionized roles, in management positions, and for ten years as a neutral in the Equal Employment Opportunity Program. He helped parties on all sides understand, navigate and respond to the EEO process. The results included fully developed cases, better understanding and an excellent resolution rate. He also served as an investigator which provided the basis for settlements and decisions after the counseling phase.

He is passionate about preparing parties for difficult conversations by providing a wide range of trainings to groups and coaching to individuals.
